The Force may still be with Daisy Ridley’s upcoming Star Wars movie, as a new writer has recently signed on, MovieWeb reports. Originally announced at Star Wars Celebration 2022, the film will reportedly follow Ridley’s character of Rey 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, putting together a team of Jedi Knights to protect the galaxy, and be helmed by documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, whose work includes Saving Face, A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness, and Sitara: Let Girls Dream in her feature film directorial debut.

This is despite a number of delays and several writers having since left the project, including Damon Lindelof, Justin Britt-Gibson, and Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders. Now, per The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter George Nolfi, known for Ocean’s Twelve, The Bourne Ultimatum, and also for writing and directing 2011’s The Adjustment Bureau is attached to the project, with its title potentially being New Jedi Order.

Because of the delays, however, the movie will most likely now be released after Shawn Levy’s entry in the series, rumored to star Ryan Gosling, in 2027.

Despite this, an earlier MovieWeb report revealed that multiple projects revolving around the character of Rey are currently being developed at Lucasfilm.
