Looks like The Lego Movie Sequel is making more changes to its script, but it’s safe to assume that the new draft will be funny. A report from Variety has revealed that Warner Bros. has hired Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg to help rewrite the film’s script. This choice makes sense when you think about it, and not just because Bob-Waksberg has already had a successful experience working with self-aware projects involving Will Arnett as the breakout character. Similar to how The Lego Movie was a brilliant satire of classic film tropes and capitalist totalitarianism, Bojack Horseman (mostly season 2) has been praised for its clever mockery of both the Hollywood celebrity lifestyle and the film industry in general. Hopefully the same amount of critical acclaim that the series received will cross over into this film.
Originally, Lego Movie writers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21/22 Jump Street) were working on a draft for the upcoming sequel following the release of the first film. However, with the two of them already working on the upcoming Star Wars prequel about a young Han Solo, it makes sense that they might have their hands full right now. The film will be directed by Rob Schrab (The Sarah Silverman Program) and is set for a release date of February 8, 2019. Before that, however, Warner Bros. will be releasing two more films to their Lego Movie Universe: The Lego Batman Movie in February of 2017 and The Lego Ninjago Movie in September of 2017.
As for Bob-Waksberg, he will be kept busy with the upcoming release of Bojack Horseman Season 3. From the trailers, this season will see Bojack try to cope with being a now-successful movie star, as well as being nominated for an Oscar. Season 3 will premiere July 22 on Netflix, so be sure to empty your schedule for a day of binge-watching.
