The new Netflix trailer for Blonde directed by Andrew Dominik and starring Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe presents a novel take on the Hollywood icon’s life. Apart from showcasing the glamor of Monroe’s career, the movie will delve into the darker and less known side of her life, “from her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements.” As told by Armas, “Andrew’s ambitions were very clear from the start— to present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens.” Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams are also part of the cast.
Armas shared that the filming process was demanding, since every scene was inspired by existing photographs that were analyzed in depth so as to fully understand the mental journey of Norma Jeane. The movie itself is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates as well as many other media forms, such as photos, videos, recordings, and movies, that offered further insight into the icon’s mind.
Fame is what made Marilyn the most visible person in the world, but it also made Norma the most invisible.
It is interesting to note that Blonde is assigned a NC-17 rating. According to Dominik, when speaking about the movie, “There’s something in it to offend everyone.”
Blonde will be released worldwide on Netflix on September 23.
