After the unexpected death of star Chadwick Boseman, it seemed unclear whether we’d see another Black Panther film anytime soon. However, it seems like Marvel Studios and director Ryan Coogler have set plans to begin shooting Black Panther 2 in July 2021 according to The Hollywood Reporter. It’s unclear how the studio plans to proceed without Boseman, but a producer recently made it clear that Marvel would not be using a CGI Double to fill in for the late Black Panther star.
Sources also recently revealed that Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta is in talks to star as an antagonist in the upcoming sequel. Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett are expected to return.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 was the first year without the release of a Marvel film since 2009. 2021 will likely see the release of three Marvel movies and two or three series. Black Widow will release May 7, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set for July 9, and Eternals is slated for November 11. On the series side of things, WandaVision, which stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, will debut on Disney+ January 15, 2021. The first seasons of Loki and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, will likely also be seen on the streamer sometime next year.
Marvel’s other highly anticipated films, Spiderman 3, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder are currently in production.
