‘Black Panther’ Is Now the Third-Highest Earning Marvel Cinematic Universe Film

Variety reports that Black Panther is now the third-highest earning Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film at the domestic box office. It’s now the highest-grossing solo MCU effort, trailing only ensemble films: Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, both of which have the benefit of cramming in multiple high-profile superheroes for extra box office muscle.

Black Panther has only been in theaters for 11 days, but it has somehow managed to rake in an unreal $411 million. It has also made $316 million at the international box office, bringing its grand total to approximately $78957 kerjillion. (Okay, really about $727 million…but who’s counting?) Ryan Coogler‘s mega-hit will soon pass Age of Ultron ($459 million) and set its sights on the first Avengers film ($623 million), before heading toward uncharted territory.

Already, the film surpassed its early projections of $100 to $120 million opening weekend. Now, as it approaches its third weekend, it could make upwards of $80 million after an incredible $111 million second weekend. The only new releases expected to make a dent in the box office this coming weekend are Red Sparrow (starring Jennifer Lawrence) and Death Wish (starring Bruce Willis). Red Sparrow is expected to make $20 million, while Death Wish should bring in around $15 million.

For now, it doesn’t like any movie will be taking the box office crown from the King of Wakanda anytime soon.
