Since the announcement of the upcoming female-dominated DC film Birds of Prey, super fans have been awaiting news on the full cast who will perform alongside Margo Robbie‘s Harley Quinn. The most recent casting to be made public is Rosie Perez as detective Renee Montoya.
Alongside Robbie and Perez are Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress), and the soon-to-be-cast Cassandra Cain.
Although Renee Montoya has never been in a DC-based film before, her character has a long history within the world of Gotham City. She began as a detective in the dark city until she was outed as gay by Two-Face (a well-known villain in the Batman series). After her personal and professional life being changed by the outing as well as her realizing the corruption within the GCPD, she leaves her position as a detective. She has been within story lines of multiple comics regarding Batman and the series, and now she gets to make her debut on the big screen.
The upcoming film will be directed by Cathy Yan.
Perez is best known for her roles in White Men Can’t Jump and Riding in Cars with Boys.
