Searchlight Pictures’ upcoming film Being Mortal was recently suspended during production, but not for any common reasons of monetary business or artistic disagreement. On the contrary, filming was halted due to reported inappropriate behavior on the part of comedian Bill Murray.
Murray was offered the chance to explain in his own words what occurred by accepting an interview with CNBC on Saturday. Apparently, after a disagreement with a female co-star, Murray made a comment that he intended to be funny, but was not perceived that way. Searchlight Pictures immediately stopped production in order to properly investigate the situation.
Murray says he has been in communication with the woman he had the disagreement with, though still not naming names, and that they’re attempting to “make peace with each other.” If they do not work things out Murray does not see a point in continuing to create the film. This film was supposed to be the directorial debut of Aziz Ansari, best known for his work on the television show Parks and Recreation. Whether or not Murray will stay in the film is unknown at this moment.
