With prolific actor Bernard Hill recently passing away, many of his previous cast mates have paid tribute to him. Some of Hill’s co-stars from The Lord Of The Rings wasted no time commemorating his legacy.
Hill was responsible for playing King Théoden in The Lord Of The Rings, the king of Rohan who marched against the forces of Sauron and Saruman after being urged to by Gandalf the White. While hesitant, Théoden decides that the best way to keep those he protects alive is to oppose those who threaten them most directly.
Hill also portrayed Captain Edward Smith in James Cameron’s Titanic. The real-life counterpart was the captain of the RMS Titanic, taking command of the ship in what was meant to be his final voyage before retiring.
During the Liverpool Comic Con, actors Elijah Wood, Sean Austin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd took turns paying their respects to Hill. Wood even posted about Hill on X. His post will be linked below.
“We were watching the movies and I said to Dom, I don’t think anyone spoke Tolkien’s words as great as Bernard did,” Boyd said.
As Deadline pointed out, Hill was expected to appear at the event but canceled early on Friday before the convention.
Wood pulled a quote directly from Tolkien’s Return Of The King. Following the death of King Théoden, heroes Aragorn and Merry reflect on him, with Aragorn saying, “For he was a gentle heart and a great king and kept his oaths; and he rose out of the shadows to a last fair morning.” Wood used the quote while bidding farewell to his old co-star in the post.
