Benny Safdie, who previously appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, will reunite with the filmmaker on his upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey, Empire reports.
Having portrayed the physicist Edward Teller in the 2024 Oscar winner about the father of the atomic bomb, Safdie is an acclaimed filmmaker in his own right, having co-written and directed several films with his brother Josh, such as Uncut Gems starring Adam Sandler and Good Time starring Robert Pattinson. In addition, some of his other notable acting roles include Licorice Pizza and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.
Now, per The Hollywood Reporter, Safdie has signed on board Nolan’s adaptation of the Homeric epic about the Greek king Odysseus, who struggles to return home to his family after years away fighting in the Trojan War, facing numerous monsters and the wrath of the gods along the way. Meanwhile, his wife and son must deal with a group of unruly suitors who want to claim the throne in the king’s absence.
Safdie joins an ever-growing list of cast members that reunites him with Pattinson and includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin and Samantha Morton. Safdie’s role in the film is currently unknown.
The Odyssey will begin filming in Sicily in late February and is scheduled for theatrical release on July 17, 2026.
