For years the Nickelodeon cartoon Dora the Explorer and its spinoff show Go, Diego, Go! have been educating young children on topics such as bilingualism and problem solving. Now Dora, her cousin Diego, and her best friend Boots the monkey are about to embark on their biggest adventure yet, because Paramount is planning to release a live-action movie adaptation of the show in August of 2019. All of Dora’s animal friends will appear as CGI creations. According to the Hollywood Reporter, director James Bobin has already finished filming the movie, but production is not done yet.
It was only recently that a key cast member joined the film in the form of actor Benicio del Toro. Del Toro provides the voice for Dora’s arch nemesis, Swiper the thieving fox. In the show, Swiper will often accost Dora on her adventures and swipe her valuables. However, Dora usually regains her stolen items with the help of the audience. Even before Del Toro joined the cast the movie boasted quite a few stars, including Michael Pena and Eva Longoria, who have been cast as Dora’s parents. Dora herself will be played by Isabela Moner of Instant Family fame.
Live-action Dora the Explorer releases in theaters on August 2, 2019.
