The Spider-Man news train just keeps on rolling this week. Just this morning, it has been confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Doctor Strange in the upcoming Spider-Man 3 sequel. This news comes off the back of recent news where we learned that filming will start this month, and that Jaimie Foxx will return as Electro.
What this means for the greater Marvel Universe is unknown at the moment but that hasn’t stopped speculation from running wild. While it was previously believed that Jaimie Foxx would be playing the same character from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it was later confirmed that he would be playing a slightly different iteration of the character and would not be — as he put it — “a blue version of the character.”
Theories of the multiverse being introduced in the upcoming Tom Holland-led Spider-Man 3 have been running wild since Foxx’s casting, and has all but been slightly confirmed with the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. Seeing as how his movie has Multiverse in the title, it can be assumed that multiverse elements will play a part in this Spider-Man sequel. Though the extent as to how prominent these elements will be remain unknown.
Spider-Man 3 remains untitled and will release sometime in November of 2021.
