The Current War (2019) Benedict Cumberbatch CR: 101 Studios

With Oscar season on the horizon, it is expected that many historical dramas will release during the Fall/Winter season of 2019. This time, we get a biopic on the man who discovered electricity-Thomas Edison- and his battle with those who try to take advantage of this discovery. The Oscar-nominated actor and lead of Marvel’s Doctor Strange will be portraying the iconic scientist in a new upcoming film from director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon titled The Current War. The film has just received its first official trailer.

The trailer showcases a brief outline of The Current War‘s plot, showcasing a rivalry between Edison and  George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) with his partner, Nikolai Tesla (Nicholas Hoult). Tesla and Westinghouse have stated they have a superior idea for outputting electricity across the USA and Edison is determined to outdo what they’re planning in this feud between genius minds.

The trailer is filled with various impressive shots and talented actors acting against one another in a story about one of the greatest corporate feuds in history. The Current War premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in 2017. While it was met with mixed reception,  the big cast and status as a major historical drama will certainly give this film some recognition this when it debuts in the United States.

The Current War is expected for release on October 4, 2019. Watch the full trailer below:

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
