Benedict Cumberbatch Has High Hopes for ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ Claims “We’re Going to Have a Success on the Level of Spidey”

Variety has reported on remarks from Benedict Cumberbatch regarding his high hopes for the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Cumberbatch claims that the film will reach the level of success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, saying “We’re going to have a success on the level of Spidey.” The new Doctor Strange film is similar to Spider-Man: No Way Home as both films include the multiverse concept. There is endless potential as to which characters from past films could appear through the multiverse.

Audiences are speculating on who might show up in Doctor Strange’s next adventure. Strange is already confirmed to appear alongside Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen. The titular X-Men franchise character Professor X may also appear in the film, since his voice (via Patrick Stewart) can be heard in the recent trailer. Stewart denies being in the upcoming film, but it is not yet confirmed if his version of the character is the same one who appeared in previous X-Men films, since a multiverse can introduce different versions of the same character.

Some fans also speculate that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool may appear for a bit of comic relief as well, though Reynolds himself has denied these rumors. Due to the nature of non-disclosure agreements in Hollywood, there are many actors that could appear in the film but would not be allowed to reveal their involvement until after the film’s release. Andrew Garfield consistently denied his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, only to appear in the film anyway.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premieres in theaters on May 6th, 2022.
