According to Variety, the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story villain, Ben Mendelsohn, will also play the bad guy in Robin Hood: Origins as the Sheriff of Nottingham. The new Robin Hood flick will be produced by Lionsgate and be directed by Otto Bathurst.
The movie will star Taron Egerton as Robin Hood, Jamie Foxx as Little John, and Eve Hewson as Maid Marian. Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey) will portray Will Scarlett, Robin Hood’s half brother.
The story will portray the war-hardened crusader Robin Hood who joins a Moorish commander in a revolt against the corrupt English monarchy. The film is also set to be released in IMAX.
The production companies include Leo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, Safehouse Pictures, and Basil Iwanyk’s Thunder Road Pictures.
Mendelsohn can be most recently seen as Orson Krennic, an Empire official in Rogue One, which will be released this Friday the 16th. He also recently won an Emmy for best supporting actor in a drama series for Bloodline, a Netflix drama.
