‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Nears Top 50 All-Time Comedy List After Halloween Surge

The long-awaited Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Tim Burton’s sequel to his 1988 classic, is climbing box office ranks, driven by the Halloween spirit and strong theater turnout. Already Warner Bros.’ highest-grossing movie of the year, the film is on the brink of a new milestone: cracking the top 50 highest-grossing comedies internationally.

Currently in 52nd place with $153.1 million, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trails the 50th-ranked The Bad Guys by just $342,000. The sequel is expected to leap ahead within days, surpassing Crocodile Dundee at 51st and potentially threatening other entries on the list. Topping the category is Barbie, Greta Gerwig’s 2023 blockbuster, with a staggering $810 million.

Beyond box office records, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has also earned acclaim, with Michael Keaton reprising his role as the beloved bio-exorcist. Critical success appears to be following Keaton this year, as his latest film, Goodrich, has opened to strong reviews as well. Goodrich, a comedy-drama about a man navigating single parenthood, has matched the 77% critic rating of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on Rotten Tomatoes and even surpassed its audience rating, scoring 88% compared to the sequel’s 80%.

Directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer, Goodrich stars Keaton as Andy Goodrich, a father adjusting to full-time parenting after his ex-wife enters rehab, with help from his adult daughter, played by Mila Kunis. Despite positive reviews, Goodrich lacks the high-profile theatrical rollout of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, currently drawing a niche audience.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is available for viewing both in theaters and on VOD platforms, offering fans a chance to see if it will soon secure its place among the top 50 comedies of all time.
