With the help of director Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production team, the 1970 documentary Let It Be, which documented The Beatles during the creation of their final album and the struggles the band members had with one another, will be released on Disney+
According to Variety, this isn’t the first time that Jackson and his team worked on a Beatles project, as they are responsible for 2021’s The Beatles: Get Back, a three part docu series that uses outtakes from Let It Be to give more context and information into the groups creation of the Let It Be album.
Jackson stated during the press events of Get Back that he always wanted the docu series to be a companion to the original 1970’s documentary and that original doc would see the light of day again, as it hasn’t been officially out to the public since the 1980s.
He was able to get that wish, as it will not only be available to millions of Beatles fans, but it will also be remastered just like the footage was on his 2021 project.
Jackson has said that the original look of Let It Be misinterpreted the film as depressing, especially when it came to the documentary’s story and context. But with the remastered footage, just like on Get Back, it will bring a more colorful essence to the film.
Not only will the film’s look be remastered, but the audio as well has been remastered. This was asked by Apple Corps, the recording company that was created by The Beatles.
Michael Lindsay-Hogg, who directed the original Let It Be, has shown his support for this remaster, saying in a statement that some of the remastered footage he has seen made the film look livelier and brighter than what was on videotape.
Let It Be will be available on Disney+ May 8.
