Barely Lethal, an action-comedy about a teen assassin starring Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit), has been acquired by indie distributor A24 in a partnership with DirecTV. Following in the footsteps of Netflix and other direct-to-On Demand releases, the comedy will be made available to DirecTV subscribers and also hit select theaters, rather than releasing nationwide.
Steinfeld stars as a teenager trained since birth to be an assassin, who then escapes to live a normal life as a teenager and attend high school. Once there however, she finds that a normal teenage life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Steinfeld stars alongside Samuel L. Jackson (Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Jessica Alba (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For). The movie’s cast also features Dan Fogler (Taking Woodstock), Steve-O (Jackass), Sophie Turner (HBO’s Game of Thrones), Jaime King (Pearl Harbor), and Thomas Mann (Me and Earl and The Dying Girl).
The movie was directed by Kyle Newman (Fanboys) from a script by first-time writer John D’Arco. It will be released in April on DirecTV and select theaters, though a specific date has not been set.
