Barbie, through Atlantic Records, has released more behind the scenes footage of the cast shooting the “I’m Just Ken” scenes of the film. The song, which earned Ryan Gosling his debut entry onto the Billboard Hot 100 and is considered one of the breakout songs of the soundtrack, came as a surprise to many but was a massive hit.
The footage shows Gosling both in the recording studio with his chorus of Kens recording the song as well as them on set recording the performance that was seen in the movie. The other Kens, including Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa and Kingsley Ben-Adir, are also shown going in dramatic fake slow-mo shots to amp up the laughs.
Director Greta Gerwig can be seen laughing in nearly all of the shots that she’s in, directing Gosling and the other Kens on set. The footage also shows Gosling in the dance studio practicing his solo and group dance choreography.
Barbie has grossed more than $500 million domestically and nearly $1.3 billion globally, making it Warner Bros.’s highest-grossing domestic film and 2nd highest film worldwide. Ryan Gosling is considered by many to be a shoe-in for a Best Supporting Actor nominee at the Oscars this year.
Besides becoming Gosling’s first Hot100 entry, “I’m Just Ken” also charted top 5 on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, the highest charting song from the album on that particular chart.
