An unknown (and unwelcome) face was spotted on the BAFTAs stage this past weekend amongst the Oppenheimer cast and crew as they were accepting their award for best picture. According to The New York Post, the crasher is a YouTuber and so-called prankster who goes by the screen name Lizwani. In a video he posted to his Instagram story he stated that a video about the event will be coming soon. This is not the first time the YouTuber has infiltrated an event, he also crashed the Brit Awards and the FIFA Ballon d’Or awards, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
THR stated, “The man, whom the British Academy did not name, was “removed by security” after he took the stage with Oppenheimer writer-director-producer Christopher Nolan, producers Emma Thomas and Charles Roven and actor Cillian Murphy. “We are taking this very seriously and don’t wish to grant him any publicity by commenting further,” a spokesperson for BAFTA added in a statement.”
Thankfully this invasion did not lead to any violence. But with the Screen Actors Guild and Academy Awards airing within the coming weeks, it will be expected that security is beefed up.
The 30th annual SAG Awards will air on February 24th, 2024, and the 96th annual Academy Awards will air on March 10th, 2024. Oppenheimer will be competing for Best Picture at both award ceremonies.
