

Avengers: Endgame will be returning to theaters ahead of the newest mission for Earth’s mightiest heroes in Avengers: Doomsday. The film will be rereleased in theaters on Sept. 25, 2026. The release window is currently unknown.
Doomsday is being directed by Marvel alum directors Joe and Anthony Russo. The brothers have directed a few Marvel films, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Endgame. They are also set to direct Doomsday‘s sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars. Secret Wars will start filming in the near future, according to Black Panther star Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri and is the current Black Panther.
Doomsday also marks the return of another Marvel alum in Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, in the first 10 years of the MCU Run, leading up to Endgame. This time around, Downey Jr. is switching sides, portraying Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom. Doomsday will have a number of stars of the same volume as Endgame, with casts from Thunderbolts*, Fantastic Four: First Steps and Fox’s X-Men franchise all set to appear in the film.
Released on April 26, 2019, Endgame became a huge pop culture event and is now the second-highest-grossing film of all time domestically, with $858 million, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which grossed $937 million.
It is also the second-highest-grossing U.S. film of all time internationally, with $1.941 billion, behind Avatar, which made $2.138 billion. And, it is the second-highest-grossing film of all time globally, with $2.799 million, again behind Avatar, with $2.924 million. Not to mention, it had the biggest opening weekend debut of all time globally, with a $1.2 billion debut.
After the Endgame announcement, Disney also announced more calendar updates. Searchlight’s Super Troopers 3 will open Aug. 7, 2026, and a rerelease of Star Wars: A New Hope moves up to Feb. 19, 2027. And an untitled The Simpsons movie moves back a few weeks to Sept. 3, 2027.
