Atom Tickets, backed by Disney, Fox, and Lionsgate, surveyed moviegoers and unsurprisingly found Avengers: Endgame to be a priority watch. Avengers: Endgame is number one on Atom Tickets’ rankings for the most anticipated movie releases in 2019. The Marvel film tops lists for most anticipated ensemble cast, superhero movie, and overall movie. Captain Marvel was voted a close second as the most anticipated movie in general and as the second-most anticipated superhero movie.
Last week, Fandango too had Avengers: Endgame at the top of their forecast for 2019. Also according to Atom Tickets, Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King is the most anticipated family film and fifth in the top ten movies people will line up to see in 2019.
While some believe streaming services like Netflix will replace theaters, Matthew Bakal, Chairman and Co-founder of Atom Tickets, said 86% of survey respondents are making the trip to a theater for a movie and 76% said they planned to watch movies they liked from the theater at home once more. Per an article from Variety, a study conducted by EY’s Quantitative Economics and Statistics group finds people who often stream at home also go to movie theaters with more frequency. Those who don’t go to the theater as often don’t stream as often. Streaming services aren’t taking business away from theaters, but are disrupting cable and broadcast television.
Your next big movie theater events, Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, hit theaters on March 8 and April 26, respectively.
