James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire And Ash is rapidly approaching its long-awaited release. As it begins to generate hype, more details have come out surrounding the film and its story, some of which come from the main talents themselves. Zoe Saldaña was one of the headlining cast members of both Avatar films, playing Neytiri, one of the Na’vi found on Pandora. Her role, opposite Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully, was pivotal in both films, with a fierce nature and dangerously defensive of those she cares about, especially after becoming the matriarch of the Sully family.
With her role carrying over into the third film, Saldaña has teased some of what fans can expect for the Sully family in the third film, after the devastating ending they faced in the end of Avatar: The Way Of Water.
Saldaña herself promised to Variety that the third installment will pack in a lot of strong emotions.
“The way The Way of Water ended was unimaginably painful for the Sully family. Now, they have to make really strong decisions. Do they stay united and find common ground, or do they go their separate ways? And God knows what’s going to happen to the existing children,” she said.
Screenrant, when reporting on Saldaña’s quote, noted that the new film will be introducing a new set of antagonists, this time natives to the planet of Pandora.
While little is known about the immediate story at this stage, speculation is high about how this group, the Ash People, will directly interact with the Sully family, especially given the sacrifices and losses that they had to face at the end of The Way Of Water.
Avatar: Fire And Ash hits theaters December 19th.
