With SXSW going on this month, audiences’ reviews for upcoming films are surfacing online. One of the most recent screening was the Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron romantic comedy Long Shot this past Saturday on March 9th. From what was gathered, the audience watching the film really got a kick out of Jonathan Levine‘s newest feature film.
The film about a journalist played by Seth Rogen having a romantic relationship with a Secretary of State played by Theron was met with a ton of laughs and positive audience reception. Film Critic John DeFore of the Hollywood Reporter enjoyed the film as he stated that, “Suspend your disbelief and you may well be charmed,”. This was apparently a shock to director Jonathon Levine as during the Q&A portion after the film was shown he stated, “I’ve been drinking the whole movie. I was nervous you guys were going to hate it.”. Not only was the Warm Bodies director anxious about the film’s reception but Theron was as well, for the actress stated that she was a bit drunk during the Q&A.
There were more surprises during the screening though as after the Q&A ended, the R&B Group, Boyz II Men, performed to end off the show. The band plays a prominent role in the film supposedly and for them to end off the first major screening of the film with a performance was very fitting. With a fun film that surprised with its success, SXSW is off to a good start with Long Shot.
Long Shot premieres May 9th, 2019.
