“As If” – Alicia Silverstone Joins Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’

Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos had bonafide indie success this past summer with The Lobster, his first English-language feature that featured major star power in the form of Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz and John C. Rielly. His follow-up project – The Killing of Sacred Deer – is currently shooting in Cincinnati and features a reunion for the director and Farrell; Oscar winner Nicole Kidman also joined the cast recently. The ensemble is continuing to take shape as Alicia Silverstone (Clueless) is set to appear in the film as well.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer, which Lanthimos is directing for a script he wrote his frequent collaborator Efthymis Filippou, centers around a surgeon (Farrell) whose life begins to fall apart upon taking in a sinister teenage boy. Recent additions to the cast include Barry Keoghan (’71) as the teenager, Raffey Cassidy (Tomorrowland), Bill Camp (Jason Bourne) and Sunny Suljic (The Unspoken). Silverstone will portray the boy’s mother. A24 Films acquired rights to the project at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, one year after Lanthimos won the Jury Award for The Lobster, which A24 Films also released stateside – that film has now earned $9 million at the North American box office.

Forthcoming, Silverstone will appear in the gay porn drama King Cobra, which was recently acquired by IFC Films; that film, also starring James Franco and Christian Slater, made its world premiere at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival. She will also soon appear in the comedies Catfight opposite Anne Heche and Sandra Oh and Who Gets the Dog?, starring opposite Ryan Kwanten (True Blood).
