Arnold Schwarzenegger Will Return To Action Films In ‘Breakout’ With ‘Expendables 4’ Director

Iconic action star Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return to the silver screen with the new action film Breakout. Sales firm Anton will launch this latest venture into action ahead of the Cannes market.

Set to start shooting in East Europe. The film will follow Schwarzenegger as Terry Reynolds, a man who plans to save his son after the latter is framed and sentenced to 25 years in a foreign prison. Reynolds sets out on a risky mission to break his son out of jail and evade an overzealous prison warden while fleeing the country.

This film marks the first time Schwarzenegger will appear on film after his four-year hiatus after Terminator: Dark Fate. Alongside this return, he is set to play a role in the Netflix series Fubar, premiering next month, and he is in talks to return to Triplets, the long-awaited sequel to Twins. When asked about his return to acting in Fubar, Schwarzenegger talked about how many fans eagerly awaited his return to action comedy. “Well, here it is,” he announces.  “Fubar will kick your ass and make you laugh – and not just for two hours. You get a whole season.”

Greenland production company Anton finances Breakout alongside Off the Pier Productions, well known for its work in Black Canary. While Schwarzenegger’s representative, UTA Independent Film Group, will co-rep the domestic rights, Anton will handle international distribution. The Last Frontier co-creator and writer Richard D’Ovidio is set to pen the screenplay for Breakout, and Expendables 4 director Scott Waugh will helm the project with funding from people like Anton producer Sebastien Raybaud.

Raybaud has expressed his excitement for the project, calling it “the perfect fit for Anton’s slate to continue delivering high-quality entertainment with big scale to the global market.”

“We are proud to be on board to make Scott’s vision come alive with the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead,” he says.
