Back in 201,5 a short Swedish indie movie called Kung Fury was released. The movie was notable for being crowdfunded via Kickstarter, offering a parody of 80’s action cop movies and kung fu movies with over the top hilarious action. The story followed Kung Fury, a kung fu fighting police detective, who travels back in time in order to fight the evilest kung fu warrior ever, Adolf Hitler i.e. Kung Führer. Along the way, Kung Fury teams up with Viking women, dinosaurs, and a computer hacker.
Now the production company Laser Unicorns has announced that they are working on a sequel to Kung Fury. Director David Sandberg will be returning to direct the sequel and reprise his role as the titular character Kung Fury. Joining Sandberg are Alexandra Shipp, Michael Fassbender, and, in a surprise reveal, veteran action star Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger has been cast as the president in Kung Fury 2, with a promotional images of him sitting in the Oval office now available. It looks like he was elected to lead, not read.
Kung Fury 2 is currently being filmed right now in Germany and, despite its title, the film might not be a direct sequel to the original movie. It will, however, take place in the same universe and follow the same characters.
