Ari Aster’s new movie, already in production, is approaching a secured release date. Under the title of Eddington, the film has officially been picked up by frequent distributor of Aster’s work, A24, and is closer to locking down a release date.
Little is known about the plot itself, other than the detail released of it following a cop in a small town. Joaquin Phoenix returns for the leading role, after working with Aster in his 2023 feature Beau Is Afraid. Alongside Phoenix is an all-star cast including Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Deirdre O’Connell, Pedro Pascal, and many more. While no specific date has been set yet, a summer range has been reported to be the target for the release, according to Variety.
Aster’s previous feature was the aforementioned Beau Is Afraid, which garnered a moderately positive reception upon release. His other two feature films, Hereditary and Midsommar, were also warmly received by critics, with both frequently being hailed as some of the greatest horror films of recent years. Collider notes that Aster has garnered a very specific reputation among audiences and especially his fans. They specifically cited the types of horror he tends to play off of in his films, which he also wrote the screenplays for, to various thematic and cinematic degrees.
