The surprisingly enormous hit movie Aquaman will, of course, be receiving the sequel treatment. This superhero blockbuster which went on to demolish a few box office records and become Warner Bros’ highest grossing film in quite some time has been confirmed to have a direct sequel.
The James Wan directed film has reportedly already had spinoff in development, according to The Hollywood Reporter, but now the sequel to the extremely popular entry into the DC cinematic universe has tangibility. Originally reported by The Wrap, American film and television writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick has been hired to write the script for the sequel. McGoldrick co-wrote the first film alongside Will Beall and has worked with Wan on The Conjuring 2.
The team behind the first film (including director Wan) has been hesitant in jumping into the to Aquaman sequel, but McGoldrick’s hiring is a step of assurance. Wan has also reportedly been making a deal to return as a producer for the next project, but it is unknown whether he will take the director’s chair again. With the fantastic performance of the fishy hero’s film, it would seem only right in a studio’s mind to hop into developing a sequel. No cast or release date have been confirmed for the project yet.
