It is rumored that Apple is expected to win big with acquiring the Sue Mengers biopic, possibly starring the Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence but has the Italian director Paolo Sorrentino on board to direct. Deadline has learned that Apple is in early discussions to secure this prize package, which was decided in a bidding war between the tech giant’s Original Films division and Netflix. Details of the situation and specifics are still being ironed out.
Sorrentino is best known for directing and writing Youth, about a retired orchestra conductor.
The untitled Sue Mengers biopic is being written by Orange Is the New Black writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo and James Bond film Skyfall writer John Logan.
If not familiar with who Mengers was, she blew out the door to be the first female agent to enter the Hollywood boys club of agenting with an enormous personality that couldn’t be contained to match her client list that included some of Hollywood’s most famous celebrities (just to name a few) like Barbra Streisand, Michael Caine, Joan Collins, Bob Fosse, Gene Hackman, Ali McGraw, Steve McQueen, Anthony Perkins, Burt Reynolds, Cybill Shepherd, and Cher and so many more.
Unfortunately, due to agents like CAA’s Mike Ovitz, and despite Mengers unwavering loyalty to her clients, she began to lose those clients in the 1970s and 1980s.
It was in 2011 that Mengers died at the age of 81.
