‘Antlers’: Hair-Raising New Trailer by Scott Cooper and Guillermo Del Toro

Fox Searchlight Pictures has dropped a new trailer for the spine-chilling, supernatural horror film Antlers. Directed by Scott Cooper and produced by academy award winner Guillermo del Toro, this film is based on the short story “The Quiet Boy” by Nick Antosca and adapted from the screenplay by C. Henry Chaisson.

A young student (Jeremy T. Thomas) stands and reads his fairy tale story to the class about three bears that lived in a dark, wet cave. With this opening line, we can already guess this isn’t the story of Goldilocks or at least not the kid-friendly version. The boy’s story grows darker, and it becomes clear that he has personified the three bears to represent his family. He stares at a photograph of him, his mother, and his infant sibling. Although the father is missing from the picture, the boy mentions that ‘Big Bear’ “got sick and his insides turned black,” leaving us to wonder who that could possibly be. The boy’s disturbing story incites his teacher (Keri Russell) into action. She, along with her brother (Jessie Plemons), the local sheriff, discover that the boy is harboring a frightening secret that could very well endanger them all.

Nick Antosca’s short story “The Quiet Boy” can be read on the Guernica online magazine at https://www.guernicamag.com/the-quiet-boy/. Fans of The Ritual, directed by David Bruckner, may find this film to be similar, as it also depicts a monster with antlers that requires sacrificial offerings to stay away.

Antlers is set to premiere in theaters in 2020. Watch the full trailer below:
