Can there ever be too much of a good thing? John Hillcoat doesn’t seem to think so. The Australian director continues to add A-list talent to his already stacked lineup of stars for his upcoming crime thriller Triple Nine. Empire reports that Anthony Mackie (Pain & Gain) is the latest actor to join the ensemble cast which includes the likes of Casey Affleck (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years Slave), Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station), Aaron Paul (TV’s Breaking Bad), Kate Winslet (Divergent) and most recently Woody Harrelson (Out of the Furnace).
The story focuses on a group of gang members and crooked police officers who target a rookie cop (Affleck) to divert the police from a heist they are planning across town. The film’s title refers to the police code for an officer in need of immediate assistance.
The thriller will mark the feature debut for writer Matt Cook, and will serve as Hilcoat’s follow-up to his 2012 bootlegging drama Lawless.
As if the lineup above weren’t enough, Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies), Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) and Michael Pena (End of Watch) will round out the talented cast.
Triple Nine will begin filming this year and will see a 2015 release. In the meantime, Mackie can be seen playing Sam Wilson aka The Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier which hits theaters on April 4.
