After some discord in getting the film off the ground, Ant-Man‘s script has received a rewrite from the star, Paul Rudd (This Is 40), and writer Adam McKay (Machine Gun Preacher, Anchorman), promising major improvements.
After Edgar Wright left the project earlier this year, Rudd and McKay sat down to work on the script he left behind. Interestingly, McKay had been approached to direct the movie in Wright’s absence, but turned down the job that ultimately went to Peyton Reed (Yes Man). Apparently McKay and Rudd have added in more humor – in line with Rudd’s comedic abilities – bigger action scenes, and a more aggressive overall tone. With the MCU(Marvel Comics Universe) seemingly going off in two prongs with the funny Guardians of the Galaxy and gritty Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, combining the two tones seems the next natural choice to keep the cinematic universe cohesive. But the main parts of the script, including the plot and major character developments, have remained true to Wright’s creation.
Casting has been settled since August (covered here) and the release date is still set for July 17th, following the highly anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1st.
