‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Features Strong Ties to ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Avengers: Infinity War barrels into theaters on April 27th, and you may be wondering which Marvel superheroes are going to feature most prominently in the film. You may also be questioning how Anthony and Joe Russo are going to incorporate disparate storylines from each Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film series into Infinity War in an impactful way. You may even be pondering how Ant-Man (played by Paul Rudd) fits into the Infinity War saga, especially given the lack of Ant-Man footage in the trailers. Is he in every scene, only shrunken down and fun-sized, barely perceptible to the naked eye? You seem to have lots of questions.

Sadly, the Russo Brothers (directors of Captain America: Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil WarAvengers: Infinity War, and Avengers 4) aren’t in the business of providing answers. At least not until April 27th. In an interview with Screen Rant, Joe Russo briefly touched upon the broader narrative of Infinity War and how each hero is introduced in the film.

“They all lead in in their own way, I think,” Joe said. “As far as plot elements that actually drive towards the story, again, I think Marvel does a great job of segmenting the movies so that you can have your own experience in each film. I think from a plot standpoint, if there’s any corollary, Ant-Man and the Wasp probably has some elements that stitch in.” His brother, Anthony, added, “But we can’t talk about that.”

So what does that mean? Your guess is as good as mine. It’s possible that the Quantum Realm (an alternate dimension only accessible through magical energy, mystical transportation using a Sling Ring, or by subatomic shrinking) will come into play in Infinity War, which would closely link the film to both Ant-Man and Dr. Strange. But as of now, with Thanos and the quest for the Infinity Stones as the major link between Infinity War and the MCU, and the lack of Paul Rudd-ness in the IW trailers, the connection between the new Avengers film and Ant-Man and the Wasp remains a mystery.

Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theaters on July 6th, a few short months after the Infinity War dust has settled.
