Anne Hathaway’s Monster – Check Out the First Teaser for ‘Colossal’

One of the big curiosities on the 2016 fall festival circuit was surely Colossal, the arrested development, genre-splicing dramedy starring Oscar winner Anne Hathaway as unstable woman who finds herself in sync with a city-stomping Kaiju. Yes, that’s the real premise of Nacho Vigalondo’s bonkers-sounding new movie, one that’s been likened as a cross between Godzilla and Lost in Translation. Today comes the first teaser trailer and, well, yes, it looks as insane as we’ve been lead to believe.

In Colossal, Hathaway portrays Gloria, a boozing trainwreck thrown further off-balance due to a recent break-up and the loss of her job. At the same time in the opposite side of the world, a destructive Kaiju begins to wreck all sorts of trouble in Seoul, Korea. Gloria discovers a certain kinship with the beast – a psychic connection? –  and perhaps a way control the monster. Joining Hathaway in the film is SNL vet Jason Sudeikis, Tim Blake Nelson (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk) and future “Beast” Dan Stevens.

The first tease leans in towards broad comedy but early reviews for the film – the film played the Toronto Film Festival and Fantastic Fest last fall – seemed to indicate that, somehow underneath its crazy high-premise, lies a heart. Take a look at the first tease of Colossal below. The film is slated to hit theaters on April 7th. It will screen first, however, at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
