Anne Hathaway is reportedly in talks to join The Shower, an alien-invasion action-comedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The script is one of many projects on last year’s Blacklist, a collection of the best unmade scripts that circled the studios.
Said to be a combination of This is the End, Attack the Block, and Bridesmaids, the movie is set around a baby shower derailed by a meteor shower that spawns monstrous aliens. The party guests then band together to fight off the invaders. The success of Spy, and the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot, make this project a no-brainer. Hathaway previously played a secret agent in the remake of the 1960s television series Get Smart.
Adam Shulman (Song One), D.J. Gugenheim (Silent Night), and Andrew Lauren (The Spectacular Now) will produce, under the latter’s Andrew Lauren Productions banner. Lauren is the son of fashion mogul Ralph Lauren.
Next steps for the project include rounding out the ensemble cast and finding a director. Since the project is in very early pre-production stages, there is no planned release window but anything before 2017 seems unlikely.
