Oscar-winner actress Anne Hathaway is attached to star in the film adaptation of French Children Don’t Throw Food, which is currently in development at StudioCanal. The most recent draft of the adaptation was penned by Jamie Minoprio and Jonathan Stern.
French Children is being adapted from an autobiography of Pamela Druckerman, who is an American-French New York Times International writer and journalist for economic and political reports. As an author, Druckerman is most notable for a 2012 book about her own experiences in French parenting philosophy and tips called Bringing Up Bébé: One American Mother Discovers the Wisdom of French Parenting. It was later published in the UK as French Children Don’t Throw Food.
The autobiographical story follows a 35-year-old American journalist who moves to Paris for her husband’s job and raises a family there. As the journalist tries to balance her family, career, and emotional turmoil, she observes her French neighbors and friends to uncover the secrets behind French parenting, which astonishingly seems to produce well-behaved French children. For example, she learns that, unlike fellow Americans, pregnant French women aren’t purchasing every parenting bible known to man, nor obsessing over natural births or C-sections. She learns, however, that it is all a facade, and that everyone has their own issues, no matter how perfect they may appear on the outside.
Blueprint Pictures is set to produce French Children. The production company’s most notable credits include the Oscar-winning Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and the adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma with Focus Features.
