Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) is set to star in the psychological thriller Alice, Darling for Lionsgate. The film is currently in production in Canada. This will be a return to Lionsgate for Kendrick as she also starred in the Paul Feig dark comedy A Simple Favor.
Mary Nighy is making her directorial debut with Alice, Darling. The film will follow Alice (Kendrick) who has been acting differently recently, by keeping secrets about her boyfriend (Charlie Carrick) from her two best friends (Wunmi Mosaku and Kaniehtiio Horn). When the girls all go on a trip together, a local girl goes missing and Alice’s boyfriend arrives.
According to Deadline, Alanna Francis wrote the screenplay which is produced by Katie Bird Nolan, Lindsay Tapscott, Christina Piovesan, and Noah Segal, and executive produced by Kendrick and Sam Tipper-Hale.
When asked about the film, Nighu said, “Alice, Darling is a subtle, nuanced story about coercion and control. As a director, I couldn’t wish for a better cast of talented actors and creatives to bring this important story to life. The chemistry between Anna Kendrick, Wunmi Mosaku, and Kaniehtiio Horn as the three friends is a joy to see”.
Kendrick received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for the 2009 film Up in the Air, and was also nominated at the Primetime Emmys for Quibi’s Dummy. She most recently starred in the HBO Max series Love Life and the Netflix feature Stowaway.
This is Nighy’s directorial debut, but she has previously directed TV episodes for Industry, Traces, and Silent Witness.
