Anna Kendrick (Into the Woods) and Rebel Wilson (Pain and Gain) will return for Pitch Perfect 3, the recently announced sequel for the hit franchise.
The previous film, Pitch Perfect 2, has been a big hit this summer, grossing more than $260 million worldwide as of June 14. There’s no word yet whether Brittany Snow (Hairspray) or Hailee Steinfeld (Begin Again) will return for the project. The director’s chair is also unfilled at this point, though Pitch Perfect 2 director Elizabeth Banks will at least serve as a producer on the threequel. Series writer Kay Cannon (TV’s New Girl) is reportedly in talks to write the new script.
It looks as though Kendrick and Wilson are hitching themselves to the franchise, and why wouldn’t they? The series has made them household names and will be a great revenue resource while they pursue other projects. Kendrick will be seen next in the wedding comedy Table 19 and is currently shooting Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. Wilson lent her voice to Kung Fu Panda 3 and is currently shooting the ensemble comedy How to Be Single.
Pitch Perfect 3 is currently in pre-production and set for a 2017 release.
