The upcoming animated feature-length film in the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, which was initially set to be released in theaters in October of next year, will officially skip theaters in favor of a streaming release on Paramount+. The decision was made to better reflect Paramount’s current plans to make Paramount Plus the exclusive home of all animated content from Avatar Studios, made up of the creative team behind the animated series Avatar: the Last Airbender and its follow-up series The Legend of Korra.
In addition to the film’s release shift, new members of the voice cast have also been announced. These include Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Dee Bradley Baker, Peta Sergeant, Freida Pinto, and Ke Huy Quan. This new voice cast joins the already announced voice cast, which includes Dave Bautista, Eric Nam, Jessica Matten, Dionne Quan, Román Zaragoza, and Steven Yeun.
The Legend of Aang’s plot synopsis is as follows:
Taking place years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the film will follow the series’ main cast in their young adult years.
More details about the plot have also been revealed, including that Aang will be going on a quest to protect an ancient power before it leads to the extinction of his culture.
The Legend of Aang is scheduled for release sometime in the fall of next year. Following its release, a follow-up TV series titled Seven Havens will also be released on Paramount+.
