Angelina Jolie Shares Her Thoughts About Life In The Public Eye

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Angelina shared her candid thoughts about her experience in Hollywood as an actress; the Academy Award-winning actress revealed that she would not want to be an actress in today’s industry. Jolie said, “I wouldn’t be an actress today. When I was starting out, it wasn’t as much of an expectation to be as public, to share so much.”

Jolie is no stranger to Hollywood, as the actress grew up amidst the industry with her parents, famous actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. She started acting and modeling at a young age; Jolie admits she “was never impressed with it [Hollywood]. I never bought into it as significant or important.”

Jolie went on to say, “I grew up in a shallow place. Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place. So you seek authenticity.”

The actress spoke about her limited social life as a result of being so squarely in the public eye. The constant paparazzi and public scrutiny have taken a toll on the actress, “My body reacts very strongly to stress. My blood sugar goes up and down. I suddenly had Bell’s palsy six months before my divorce.”

Angelina Jolie’s constant attention was brought to a head following her divorce from actor Brad Pitt. Jolie explained that the physical and mental toll surrounding life in the public eye was extremely taxing and limiting to her.

“It’s part of what happened after my divorce. I lost the ability to live and travel as freely.” Jolie hopes to step away from acting at some point in her life and spend more time at her home in Cambodia.
