Angela Bassett Joins ‘Mission: Impossible 6’

American Horror Story alum Angela Bassett has accepted her latest mission. Deadline broke the news that the actress has joined the cast of Mission: Impossible 6. Once again, the long-running Paramount franchise has Tom Cruise leading the field as super agent Ethan Hunt. Along for the sixth ride is Rebecca Ferguson (a memorable component of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), Vanessa Kirby (The Crown), Alec Baldwin and Superman himself, Henry Cavill. Christopher McQuarrie once again helms the latest franchise entry.

While the plot of the sixth Mission: Impossible film is currently being kept under lock and key as is character assignments for the newcomers to the cast, the film is currently in production – McQuarrie took to Twitter to announce the start of filming in at the start of April – Bassett is scheduled to start work this week.

The subtitle is also unknown at this time; surely Mission: Impossible 6 will not the be actual moniker. McQuarrie, an Oscar winner for the crafty thriller The Usual Suspects and a frequent Cruise collaborator, also penned the screenplay.

Memorably, Bassett has been a member of Ryan Murphy’s troupe for his FX anthology series American Horror Story, for which she has earned two Emmy nominations. She is also attached to star and executive produce in a new Ryan Murphy series called 911. Recently, she has graced the screen with roles in Chi-Raq and London Has Fallen. Bassett also will make her Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming, highly anticipated Black Panther, in which she portrays Ramonda; the film is currently in post-production. Bassett earned an Oscar nomination for her scorching portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It.

Mission: Impossible 6 hits theaters on July 27, 2018.
