The Lonely Island frontman Andy Samberg has revealed he will soon return to the big screen in a romantic comedy titled Palm Springs. A still from the film released in an EW interview shows the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star joined by Cristin Milioti, best known for playing the titular mother in How I Met Your Mother.
The film will soon debut at the Sundance film festival ahead of its assumed wide release. Directed by Max Barbakow in his dramatic debut, Palm Springs will see Samberg accompanied by his bandmates Jorma Taccone and Akiva Shaffer, as well as Dylan Sellers, Becky Sloviter, and Chris Parker, as producers.
Described as a twisty rom-com, the wedding-set story chronicles the chance meeting of Sarah (Milioti) and Myles (Samberg) at a sister’s destination wedding. Its Sundance page describes the film as a “lighthearted romp peppered with thoughtful realizations about the nature of love and loneliness,” and reveals an “impromptu tryst… [as] Sarah joins Nyles in embracing the idea that nothing really matters, and they begin wreaking spirited havoc on the wedding celebration.”
Samberg, who described his character as “very chill,” expressed his excitement for the film’s Sundance debut to EW, stating the festival “really does launch brilliant filmmakers and brilliant performers’ careers. It’s an exciting thing to be a part of.”
Palm Springs will debut at Sundance Sunday, Jan. 26.
