The trailer for Palm Springs, Saturday Night Live-alum and Hot Rod star Andy Samberg’s newest romantic-comedy, has officially released. The film, which also stars Cristin Milioti (The Wolf of Wall Street), is about two young people meeting in – you guessed it – the beautiful Palm Springs, California. In Groundhog Day-esque twist, they then proceed to fall in love, and experience the same exact day, over and over and over again. In fact, Samberg’s character Niles himself even refers to it as “one of those infinite time-loop situations you might have heard about.” It then follows the two characters, well-aware of the situation they are in, as they try to navigate the loop, make the best of it, and try to get themselves out of it.
Palm Springs is set to be released as a Hulu original on July 10, after the streaming service paid over record-breaking $17 million at Sundance for the film’s rights, per Vulture. Perfect for pandemic viewing, the repetitive, timeless cycle that they are in seems to be a nice metaphor for our own seemingly endless, looping time zones that quarantine has had us all feeling like we are inside of.
The film is directed by Max Barbakow in his first feature film. It also stars Riverdale’s Camila Mendes and Spider-Man’s J.K. Simmons in supporting roles.
