An A-peeling Tease for ‘Bananaman’ Movie

Bananaman teaser poster.

It offers absolutely no insight whatsoever as to who will be in it, who’s making it, or what it will be about, but a teaser poster for an upcoming Bananaman adaptation confirms a movie is happening, and that it’s slipping into theaters next year.

The image was first released leaked at the London MCM Expo and was reported on several news sites, including Metro. The teaser image plays off several of what will surely be many banana puns to come in the film’s publicity campaign. It shows shot of Earth with a banana draped over it large enough for Atlas to slip on. The teaser follows the official website, also recently launched, which offers no clues into the upcoming movie other than #PeelthePower.

In the superhero canon, Banaman is one of the most unknown and, in every sense of the word, fruitiest. The British import created by Steve Bright,  Dave Donaldson and John Gering in 1980 follows the appropriately named Eric Wimp (or Eric Twinge, depending on which era you’re reading), a tiny youngster that transforms into a superhero every time he eats a banana.

With nothing set in stone, it’s best to just speculate what the Bananaman movie would look like. With the inspired silliness of the comics and the cartoon, the inevitable movie could potentially be right at home alongside British action-comedy trilogy Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End. And, those were all directed by Edgar Wright. And since Wright just left helming Marvel’s Ant-Man, he’s free to take on another superhero’s lore.
