Amy Winehouse Biopic in the Works

This past week, the Winehouse family signed a multimillion dollar deal with Monumental Pictures to produce their late daughter’s long-awaited biopic.

English singer Amy Winehouse was a five-time Grammy award winner who was known for her popular singles Rehab and cover of Valerie. She worked with many famous artists such as Mark Ronson and was also named one of the most charitable stars of her time. Unfortunately, the singer died in 2011 due to alcohol intoxication.

According to The Guardian, Mitch Winehouse, the singer’s father, says the family previously received multiple pitches from companies for a biopic, but only now does it seem like the right time to honor their daughter’s legacy. The Winehouse family will act as executive producers of the film and Kinky Boots writer Geoff Deane is set to adapt the story. Production will not start until 2019, which is the same year of the scheduled Amy Winehouse hologram world tour.

There is no set release date for the film as of now. In the meantime, an Amy Winehouse documentary entitled Back to Black, named after her last album, is set to debut this November. The film is said to include never before seen footage of the singer’s life and serves to raise awareness and funds towards her name and foundation.
