Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd co-star in a satirical take on rom-coms for David Wain’s They Came Together. David Wain has previously directed the duo in Wet Hot American Summer (2011), a romantic comedy that focuses on a group of camp counselors. He is also known for directing Role Models (2008) and Wanderlust (2012), both of which also feature Rudd.
This movie is an opportunity for audience members who envy the relationships in romantic comedies to step back and laugh at themselves. They Came Together is also a perfect forum for the reunion of the always appealing Poehler (Baby Mama) and Rudd (Knocked Up).
The first trailer (below) provides a glimpse into the hilarity. The fun begins when Bill Hader’s (Superbad) character asks Poehler and Rudd to recall about how they met. The predictable (by design) comedy continues with the actors recounting snippets of their past. Check it out:
In addition to the cast members previously mentioned, They Came Together’s all-star cast includes Ed Helms (The Hangover), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother), Martin Starr (Knocked Up), Michael Shannon (Man of Steel), Kenan Thompson (Saturday Night Live), and Ellie Kemper (21 Jump Street). Remember, contrary to what the trailer notes (with what might be a literal wink there at the end), this is a movie and it is not their real lives.
This seemingly uproarious comedy can be viewed in theatres and on-demand starting June 27.
