Amy Poehler and Ike Barinholtz Teaming Up for Basketball Comedy

Amy Poehler (Inside Out) will team up with Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors) for an untitled basketball comedy. The movie will follow a once-promising basketball coach (Poehler) who is hired by an NBA team to be the first female coach in league history.

Barinholtz’s role hasn’t been announced at this time. This is the second time he and Poehler will team up as the pair will be seen together in the upcoming comedy Sisters with Tina Fey (This is Where I Leave You). Barinholtz will write the movie with his regular writing partner David Stassen (TV’s The Mindy Project). The pair also wrote the action comedy Central Intelligence starring Dwayne Johnson (Furious Seven) and Kevin Hart (Get Hard).

Poehler is currently working on the prequel Netflix series, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. She’s also in pre-production on the comedy The House co-starring opposite fellow SNL alum Will Ferrell. Barinholtz is currently shooting the animated video game adaptation Angry Birds and the DC Comic movie Suicide Squad. He’s also set to return for Neighbors 2.

Incidentally, this film has echoes to Eddie, another comedy about a woman coaching an NBA team which starred Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg; that film was received poorly when released back in 1996. Poehler and Barinholtz’s involvement with this new take on the premise – no release date has been announced – might make the subject a better connect with audiences.
