Amy Madigan in 'Weapons'

Oscar-winner Amy Madigan has officially signed on to The Comebacker, a baseball film at Sony Pictures starring Tom Hanks and Callum Turner. The film is said to be a love letter to baseball and is based on the short story by Dave Eggers. It follows a New York Mets pitcher (Turner) whose career and life are put in jeopardy when he gets hit by a batted baseball. Madigan will play the owner of the Mets, with Tom Hanks playing the team’s pitching coach.

The film is directed by Marielle Heller (NightbitchA Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), and she is also writing the screenplay. Gary Goetzman is producing the film alongside Heller and Leah Holzer. The film is also partnering with MLB and the New York Mets. Amy Madigan won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress this year for Zach Cregger’s Weapons. Besides this, she has several other projects in the works, including an X-Files reboot and a Weapons spinoff movie centered around her character, Gladys.

The Comebacker is currently in production but has no release date as of yet.
