‘American Psycho’ Author Set To Helm ‘Relapse’

The writer of American Psycho, Bret Easton Ellis, has landed his first project as a director. The film, dubbed Relapse, is set to feature Joseph Quinn in the leading role.

“Fueled by his unstable personality and the invading power of social media, Matt’s paranoia grows, messing up with his rehabilitation program. As he starts using again, a mysterious presence starts growing around Matt, and a monster that has been haunting him since he was a teenager reveals itself. His therapist tries to help, convinced that the monster is actually in Matt’s head,” states an official synopsis of the film, according to Screen Rant

Ellis is most well known for writing the book American Psycho, the basis for Mary Harron’s film American Psycho, headlined by Christian Bale. Some of Ellis’ other well known books include Less Than Zero, Lunar Park, and The Rules Of Attraction, among others.

Joseph Quinn’s biggest claim to fame on his resume is his time on the fourth season of Netflix’s mega hit, Stranger Things, as Eddie Munson. He is also set to appear in the upcoming films Gladiator 2, and A Quiet Place: Day One, the spin-off of A Quiet Place.

As stated, this is Ellis’ first film as a director, according to Variety. While an established author, Ellis has served as a screenwriter before when adapting his own book. Gregor Jordan’s The Informers was based on Ellis’ own work, and he served as the writer on the film.
