Netflix’s second deal at Sundance resulted in the streaming platform buying the documentary, American Factory, directed by Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film centers on the opening of Fuyao, a glass factory in Dayton, Ohio. Along with the creation of more jobs, the factory setting mixes people of different cultures together, allowing viewers to witness resulting interactions of this diverse environment.
Before the film premiered on January 25, there were already high hopes surrounding the documentary. The deal has also put Participant Media and Netflix back together again after their making together of the Oscar-nominated movie, Roma. The $3 million deal comes after their first acquisition at the festival with the political documentary Knock Down the House, which follows the campaign trails of four aspiring women politicians.
